New Skyline Driver: Hugh Wrinkle Heading Out
After three months of extensive training, Hugh Wrinkle was given keys to his own truck and is now an official Skyline driver. Hugh grew up in Florida and moved to Knoxville to be closer to family. He was working in law enforcement but didn’t enjoy the correction’s side.
“My friends who are truck drivers said that with my motivation, I would be good at driving and would really enjoy it. I decide to see for myself.”
Hugh says Skyline’s training program was a lot more extensive than he thought it would be.
“All of the trainers really make sure you understand what you’re doing. At first I had a hard time with my backing skills, but Mike Garrabrant was really knowledgeable really worked with me. In the grad program, Rick Arnold made sure I knew the basics of truck driving before I went out with my over the road trainer, Landon Burnette.
“I really enjoyed my time with Landon. He was very calm in difficult situations and he explained things in just the right way. He helped me refine my backing skills and now I have no problems backing into a spot.”
Hugh said the one-on-one training he received was very impactful.
“At other companies you’re just a number. They pump out 20-30 people at a time, but I prefer the 1-on-1 attention. With Skyline, I’m a person. They know me by name and face – from the owner of the company to the operations manager to the safety department.”
Hugh left Knoxville on Thursday, March 22, excited but a little apprehensive about going out by himself.
“I hope I do well and make Skyline proud. This company has invested a lot of money into me and now it’s my turn to repay them by doing a good job and showing them the investment paid off.”
When he’s not driving, Hugh likes to read and calls himself a life-long learner.
“I like to take extra educational classes when I can. I’m family oriented and like spending time with my nephew.”
